About us

Big Dog Leather Company (BDLC) was established in early 2024 and is located in the North West of Northern Ireland.

At the time, we faced challenges in finding high-quality leather collars for our two dogs—Harley, a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois, and Teddy, a 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel.

In response, we decided to create our own custom leather collars, combining craftsmanship with a commitment to quality.

Our journey began as a passion project and quickly grew into something much larger. We began attending shows and events, discovering a community of individuals who, like us, were seeking high-quality, handmade leather goods crafted locally by independent artisans. This realization led to the founding of Big Dog Leather Co.

With nearly a decade of experience as a knife maker, Evan has honed his skills in designing and crafting durable, high-performance folding pocket knives, accompanied  by highly desirable leather slips. His expertise naturally expanded to creating wallets, dog collars, leads, and a variety of other functional leather goods. As demand for his work grew beyond his existing production capacity, the launch of our website became a natural step forward.

Jill, with her expertise as a teacher and her strong organizational skills, took on a key role in assisting with both the production of items and the management of social media, online orders, and event coordination.

Our website allows us to efficiently serve a wider audience, streamline our ordering and administrative processes, and ultimately ensure faster delivery times, while freeing up more time to focus on what matters most—spending quality time together.

Given this, we recognized the need to expand our leather collection to include materials that excel in regular exposure to salt water. After careful consideration, we selected Biothane, a cost-effective alternative to leather, offering better resistance to these elements, whilst requiring minimal maintenance—only a quick wipe down to keep it in optimal condition.
